Hi All,

I've been given a quote of approx £150 - £170 from a local garage for a full service on my 2.5 TDi T4.

That includes all filters and oil etc. I've also asked them to change the coolant... however, which coolant should I ask them to put in there? The reason I ask, is because I've topped up with pink stuff that I had left over from my 98 Golf TDI (the stuff in the tank was also pink). However, the sticker says G12 (which I believe is supposed to be a bluey/green colour)... so which should actually be put in there?

I've also asked for the timing to be checked. He said he doesn't have VAGCOM but uses something similar which can do the job. Is that true?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Amnesia T:

I would say that is cheap.

He may not have vagcom which will check issues on timing, but a visual on the timing belts at both ends of the engine is easy enough for wear and tear etc.

If this is a new van to you, and you are not sure when the Timing belts/water pump were last changed, I would bite the bullet and find someone who has all the right kit (Locking pins and vagcom) and get it replaced. And you do need someone who knows about T4 timing as they are delicate little so and so's. A fraction off and they drive like a pig.

If the timing belts was inside of 60K then you are OK for now.

Good luck T:

G11 is blue, G12/12+/12++ is pink/red.
G12 is obsolete and replaced by G13 which is purpleish.

Thank you for the advice all...

I'm going to find a VAG specialist that has VAGCOM to properly check my timing, etc. Rather than risk this garage looking at it and potentially messing it up?

Nice to know G12 is now G13... I will ask them to do replace with G13.

Thanks again all!
