OK where and how much?

if i stick my finger when this 17mm plug has been removed where should the oil be?
before i hit metal or???
level with hole?

just thought i should check as i have not looked for quite some time and have forgotten what the level should be.

i have a figure in my head of 15mm but from where and which hole i am not sure.

I allways top it up till the oil just starts to run out of the filler plug hole, won't be too far out if you do that and it ensures that the 5th gear will get a good supply of oil as running with a low oil level causes the 5th gear to over heat and die.

If you drain it, it needs 2.5 litres.

Not done it on my van yet but I would concur with Muggsy, top it up till it flows out the hole. Thats the usual way with most other cars I've worked on when there is no dedicated dipstick (apart from the driver)......T:

mmm must have a leak somewhere. pos out put shaft seal as it took over a litre and i am some how thining when we did the engine change we filled it to the threads. but that was quite some time ago....

some of what i had lets fro the last time and some liquid moly 75-90 stuff. all i could find this afternoon.

just found the info i was looking for. the correct level is upto 5mm below the hole and no less than 15mm below the hole. so filling to the threads is 5mm too much
