I was planning to change my GB oil in spring, mine is weeping slightly from the cover plate with the VW symbol on it.

You can see the plate in the bottom of this picture.

Would it be a good idea to remove it and replace the gasket while I'm at it, or leave it well alone.
I have no idea what is behind this plate but I'm sure I was told in the past not to remove the plate.

I don't think that is the same plate Brookster.

I'm talking about the small plate that almost looks like an EGR blanking plate.

That is it alright.
I think I'll be leaving it alone as I have no idea what it is or why it inserts into the gearbox so far.

Hmm, so it's the selector shaft end plate.

It obviously provides support for the selector but the question is...

What happens if you remove it?

Will the selector do anything, will it drop in gear box and then not work properly?

Hi all, just found this thread and im in the same situation, mine is weeping a little oil, does anyone know if anything will happen internally if i remove this cap and clean up around the area? Also is there a specific gasket that i can replace or is gasket paste sufficient.
Thanks
Andy
