i'm trying to sort my van abit at a time , and its got this oil leak, power steering fluid leak , front gaters need changing, and and afew other bits... so i took it in to get the oil leak sorted and the mechanic reckons it'll need a new cam belt coz the oil leak seems to be coming from that area, and he's going to fit a new water.... timing belt, he says its a big job, and isn't looking forward to it... i trust these guys and they seem sound, but does anyone know of a reputable vw t4 specialist garage in south london , near brixton, that i could go to so they could give it a once over? any info would be appreciated.

thanksT:

when they change the cam belt make sure they do all the pulleys aswell . had mine done 2 years ago but the didnt change the water pump pulley and the bearing collapsed about 2000 miles later , wrecked my engine

i was told by several garages that the water pump side of things isnt in the standard cam and pulley change , its an extra , worth paying the extra

If you are getting the cam belt changed.. You should maybe get the water pump done at the same time.. T:

Take it to Cordwallis of Maidenhead (Dazboi01 on here)

Won't cost you much more than what you've been quoted and this is a main dealer service with the main dealer come back.

I also noticed they changed LOADS of other little bits like seals at the same time as the belt all in the quoted price T:

nice to be mentioned lol, im back at work tomorrow, but it sounds like the oil pump gasket is leaking if its going down onto the belt, when we do a cambelt change the water pump is always part of the package, for what it costs to do its not worth the hassle or the loss of confidence when theres a failure and you have to say to your customers or ur mates, sorry but theres not any warranty as it was the water pump that caused the failure, can i have £2000 please, as for the leak the oil pump gasket is not a nice job to do, but longevity wise it needs to be attended to, otherwise theres no point in doing your cambelt, off the top of my head i cant remember the costings but a few of the lads on here have had it done, as long as ur guys know what theyre doing and you trust them thats the most important thing

I got my cambelt, water pump, tensioner and crank oil seal all done at the VW main dealer for £510.

(Bridgwater VW).
Thats about right costs for most main dealers, we would have got the majority of a inspection service in there as well for that price

thanks for the info. i do trust them, they're just a small private place in brockley, lewisham the mersh brothers. but i'll mention it to them about oil pump gasket, i spect they know what they're doing. if i need any other work done though i'll contact you as the front gaters need changing and the exhaust has rusted threw right next to the cat amongst other things.... i'm trying to get it mechanically sound before i move to cornwall in early september and i'm going to be studying photography full time , so no money then. thanks again.
