A V O I D AVOID AVOID. Thanks to Glen Mills of Go Transporter, I am £1000 out of pocket, multiple garage fitting costs, no working gearbox, in fact worse than my original one. Was extremely friendly up to the point of payment, (cash only) then wouldnt answer calls, texts, emails when there was a problem. A genuine gearbox specialist repaired the box he supplied and said it had never been reconditioned. Just sprayed to look clean. Complete SCAM. How many families will he put in danger. Despicable individual.
Yep as above the bloke is a complete c*ck.
My gearbox lasted 2hrs before the main shaft seal which turned out to be rolled inside out and not new at all, leaked all the gearbox oil over my new clutch, flywheel and pressure plate.
He knows nothing of gearbox building, take one look at his workshop and you will realise what kind of outfit his company is!!
If anyone wants pictures of one of his rebuilt gearboxes let me know, there laughable.
So all in all cost me £500 for his gearbox plus my old one.
new clutch plate.
lots of labour!!
Another crappy experience with 'Glen' and 'Go Transporter'.
DO NOT USE Go Transporter! Go anywhere else.
I had to take my van back loads and they ain't near. It was always grinding, clunky, leaked oil, worse than the last box. Then after months of him not even bothering to answer the phone I had to take it to someone else! which weren't cheap! and they laughed at the quality of the work - reusing worn parts and leaving components out. Basics! Well dodgy setup.
Just came on here to see if anyone had expereanced the same as me.
I am about to take this guy to small claims.
I originally bought a gearbox back in August, the first gear box supplied ed oil everywhere as soon as my van was moved, they came out and fitted a 2nd box for me, this one had no reverse, the 3rd box was out in a week later the day I was due to go on holiday, as soon as the box was fitted I drove the van to Cornwall, after half an hour 5th gear kept popping out. I messaged them and was told it was a easy fix. Due to being skint after the gear box fitting I just put up with the 5th gear issue for the last few weeks of the summer, the issue got worse, I went to contact them through eBay and to my surprise they have vanished and their account closed. I have spoken to a geabox specialist and have been told it’s not a easy fix and my gearbox with need to be reconditioned and will cost £800-£1000.
I’m £1000 out of pocket for the gearbox and the fitting and my van is sat on the drive.
I had mine done at Gearlink in Salisbury. Can’t rate them highly enough, turned around in just over a day & a half and that was including the drive shaft and stub. He’s does T5 boxes all the time so I’m guessing has them in stock already built. Haven’t had an issue since!!!
AGREED - AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Glen is all smiles and full of promises, but it won't last. He's clearly let down a lot of people! Booked to do a manual conversion, but after weeks of delays and excuses, I got the van back, a week later (on holiday) the front suspension collapsed, then gearbox seal popped, 3000 miles later the gearbox completely broke. £1600+ £500 additional repairs all lost! No reply to any calls etc. Now confirmed he put a 1.9 box in my 2.5, linkages all wrong, total mess. Unbelievable.
Looks like he is now trading as Vagtransmission, also selling all over Ebay. DO NOT RISK IT.
Unfortunately I'm going through the same problems as alot of you are. I originally got my gearbox back in December. Has anyone actually got money back from him or has everyone just moved on elsewhere?
Re: Go Transporter / VAGTransmissionsLtd Gearbox services
Don't go anywhere near this guy or company!!!! As others have stated, you'll be lucky if you can drive your van away from his premises with the shoddy work that they do! What's worse is that he comes across as a very friendly family guy - had me totally fooled and now I'm £850 out of pocket Have just spent the best part of 30 mins on the phone to eBay to try and relay as much info about this guy as possible. They have many complaints about him and I have been told that they are 'dealing with it' but it doesn't sound like they will be able to do that much.
Maverick58, looks like you had the same problem I have now. The final drive/drive shaft splines have stripped & looking for a specialist to repair/refurb. Looking in the Southampton, or surrounding, area. Gearlink have been mentioned to me as very good, but expensive, but I assume from your post that your experience with them was positive?
