Bought a set of h&r springs to fit to 2012 t5.1 startline.
Springs are well short to fit in standard strut..spring loose in strut when tightened up.
I ordered the set to suit front axle up to 1500kg..other option was suit over 1500kg..
Should I have ordered the others..
Any help
Much appreciated

Standard shock ? It should be ok when you have the weight of the van on them. But they will rattle., May have been better to change the shocks as well to a short shock like Billy b8's to keep the spring tight.

Going back to eurocarparts tomorrow. ..I'm stumped...
No mention of similar problem on here, yet everybody has fitted them.
Spring so loose I didn't need spring clamps to fit in strut..
Only a maniac would run about with these on.
For the record I got kit 3.
Up to 1500kg front
Over 1560kg rear.

I ran std shocks and -40 H&R's kit3 on my 2012 T28 startline for 3 years with no problems, although i did get a slight knock from the inside rear when cornering if i went over a pothole when the van was empty, this soon went as i started to add weight to the van. i found the ride good but it would wallow a bit in corners, I've now fitted B8's which has made the ride much better (H&R anti rollbars next ) my vans now a camper weighing 2200kgs

You don't say how much lower the spring is :* The standard front strut can be used with upto -40mm before the shocks have to be changed to short throw. The rear springs are the same.... The spring won't go anywhere but it may click ever so often as the spring re-seats itself.

I fitted a set of 40mm h&r kit 1 to mine on Wednesday. I didn’t have to compress the new springs, so I put a little grease on the rubber side of strut top to help locate when vehicle weight is on springs. No problems with mine (except front tyres scrubbing on arch liners lol) drives loads better too.

I'm still scratching my head , amongst other things..
Springs should be -40mm kit 3.
Van is 2.0 tdi 102bhp lwb,
17 thunder alloys.
With the strut all back together I can move the spring about.
Spring doesn't really push top mount bearing into mount..
I'm amazed if this is how it should be, and nobody has mentioned..
I'm of to Euro, it may become clearer.
Thanks for replies

Cheers for that..tried Euro (very helpful).
They ordered in another set for 12 noon. .
A set for the heavier front end..
Checked them against each other , heavier weight load ones actually a wee bit shorter again...
I'm going to try again with up to 1500KG FRONT SET AS BEFORE..
We'll see how it works out..
Still can't believe no ones mentioned this problem previously. .

I've got a 2011 T30 Kombi and run H&R - 50mm springs on OEM struts with no problems. They're a good fit on the shocks with no play. They didn't need spring compressors to fit, but did need a fair bit of pushing down before the nut would engage on the thread.

According to my receipt from Chilli Jam vans, I've got Kit 4 which are (direct quote): "suitable for a van with front axle weight from 1501kg and rear from 1560kg."

Cheers Matt,
I've got kit 3
front axle up to 1500kg
But euro got me the kit 4 ones to compare length.
Kit 4 ( over1500kg), these looked to be obout 20mm shorter than kit 3.
Both springs sitting on floor pushed against wall. Over 1500kg were shorter.
I took a video of spring in place on strut. But not in van.
I can spin spring around with one hand.
I didn't need to compress spring at all to get nut screwed home..
Still don't think its right.
Bit weird. Do I have longer struts than everybody else?

It's all become clear.
What a tool I've been.
When I took of old strut, I had a new strut top mount and bearing to fit.
So threw old mount in bin..
Realised last night that there is a metal spring plate goes between bearing and rubber mount.
DOH!
I was trying to fit without metal plate.
No wonder the spring was so lose..
Thanks for those who tried to help the hopeless.
