I rang the number given on ADAC's site for people who live outside Germany but who want their breakdown recovery. I was passed from operator to operator until they told me to join the AA and then I could, through the AA, become a member of ADAC.
Has anyone else had this problem or did I just get the wrong people on a Sunday?
Thanks
Chris

Online perhaps?I:
Not allowed outside of Germany, unfortunately, otherwise I much prefer on-line bookings. I've been given the name of a person there and a telephone number so if that works tomorrow I'll post the details.
I know it's Sunday but that's often the day people like to do things, but I was passed from city to city by very polite and English speaking ladies who could not quite grasp the idea that I wanted to join from the UK.
I'm off to the South of France in a week and my Barclaycard cover finishes at the end of the month and they are no longer doing this service.

I joined over the phone and politely asked for an english operator and was immediately transferred the once to an english specialist,,, even the phone ivr system then talked to me in english as it is a dedicated line/branch. I joined up no problems and had an excellent, thorough service.

OK - everything was very smooth this morning. I called 0049 941 55673 and asked to speak in English. They offered my Plus cover for €79.50 plus €4 for joining fee. The Plus cover works anywhere in the world and applies to my wife and myself for up to 92 days in the European area and 45 days elsewhere. It's not vehicle specific. You have to be more than 5o km away from home for it to operate but the cover is amazing for the money otherwise.
Off to France at the weekend and looking forward to a good run down to the Med and the Spanish Pyrenees.

Glad it worked for you. Breakdown cover will work outside your house, you have to be more than 50km away to be entitled to the replacement car rental T:
