The little turny-thing on the dash of my van that adjusts the position of the headlights only seems to adjust the dipped position. Is this correct behaviour? Seems odd to me, because a heavy backend would make both dip and main too high.......

Any opinions, advice etc?

Thanks in advance

Thank you Scottish Scrutineer - it is good to know that that is normal rather than broken. I had naively assumed it was a general adjustment for pointing the headlight where it should go.

A heavy load in the back will see the main beam pointing too high and while that is not a nuisance to oncoming traffic (should be on dip) it could still be a safety issue.

I wonder if they added extra smarts to avoid adjusting the main beam. If so maybe the main beam can be made adjustable?

Cars with xenon (HID) or led headlights are required to have automatic adjustment of the lights or self-levelling suspension.
