Heater Control Panel Lights Not Working

The illumination of the heater controls (temp, Fan, Air Distribution etc.) has stopped working on our 1999 T4. Looking behind the trim panel, the illumination appears to be LEDs wired into the circuit board of the control unit. Am I correct in thinking the whole unit has to be replaced to restore the illumination, or any suggestions please?

Depends upon your electronics skills....
Chances are if they all are off, it's the regulator (small chip) that needs replacing, or even something as simple as a capacitor.
Other thing to check is, is there any 12v supply to the board? (Though may NOT be 12v, as in my van the leds dim with the rotary control for the rest of the dash....)
Supply probably comes from the main instrument panel.....with loads of connections that can fail over time....like my fuel gauge that gives up every summer when the sun hits the dash!
Take it out, good "tug" on the loom, plug it back in, and it's OK for another year.

Why do you need it anyway.....not rocket science to work out where your fingers are. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for your reply, there must be power to the board as the fan etc works fine. Will try having a go at unplugging and reconnecting. I agree with what you say, not rocket science and lack of illumination not a problem for me but you are welcome to use that argument with my other half..........

Power to the switches is totally separate to the illumination.
Never actually "looked" at it, (wiring diagram wise), but I suspect the LEDs are driven from the main instrument panel, which is controlled from the dimmer switch (next to the light switch).
Even the original "radio" illumination came from that.

Probably just a bad connector between the 2.
As I said, I have a yearly problem with my fuel gauge! (And it's just the connection to the instrument panel)
This year, I've simply got used to the "Empty Tank" buzzer going off, the gauge reading empty, and just make sure I haven't driven more than 800km since I last filled up. (y)
