Hi had my t4 for a month now and love it but the tailgate lock is very temperamental one day it locks next day it doesn't can anyone help please?

Don't use WD40 in a lock

yes do not use it in your lock as it will dry out, wd is water disperser and cleaner. spray grease is good T:

could be rubber expanding on different days, try adjusting the catch, your need a good big screwdriver as the screw heads are big.

WD40 won't dry the lock out, it will dissolve any grease that's in there leaving a less than adequate film. If you want to clean the lock out, do it with brake or carburretor cleaner first THEN do it with penetrating spray grease.

However, to get back to the OP's question, are we talking about central locking here? Could be that the lock solenoid is on its way out, or that the linkages are stiff.
