Hi i`ve seen a set of wheeels i really like

they need a refurb which is fine i can handle that

but!!!!

the wheels have a couple of hairline cracks on back of rim

is this a common thing

is it safe welded

and is it expensive to get done

anybody have any experience with this???

i think the wheels are aluminium if that makes any difference

I used to drive about on a 19" RS8 that I had welded after an argument with a curb. I had it on the back wheel - NEVER the front. It's not totally safe imo but seemed ok for about 9 winter months. Just be prepared for a quick flat tyre.

Bin job I reckon!I:

And thats from a qualified Engineer!

Don't fancy your chances belting down the road at 70mph and the weld decides to give up!

You might struggle to find someone prepared to weld it in this litigious world we live in.

Would they distort when welded, if not where is the energy going?

I could go on..........

If you like the wheels, find them new from somewhere, don't take a chance.:ILU:

Had a few alloys welded up now, if you use a competent alloy welder then you should be fine, think it will always be in the back of your mind though:(

Keep checking ebay - might find a bargain set of audi reps for around 200 sniffs or less. You'll prob get a bit of kerbing but probably be same price as getting those ones fixed, and have peace of mind also.
