Jakobi’s Wonderful Life

The following story was kindly written for us by Jacobi's loving parents.

Paul and Kristina Hookens said:
I’m sure there has been thousands before and thousands more stories to be told like ours but I’d just like to tell you our short story about the work CLIC Sargent do and how it helped us through the traumatic last few years of Jakobi’s wonderful life.

Back in January 2009 our beautiful boy was diagnosed with cancer and it was at that point that CLIC Sargent started helping us with Jakobi’s care. CLIC Sargent provided social workers who work on your child’s behalf to obtain funding for various things that they need, provide accommodation for the family when treatment takes them away from home and much more. There are also CLIC Sargent nurses who are the liaison between the hospitals and come out to the house to administer treatment and blood tests and arrange transport for the children and parents if treatment needs to be at the hospital. They also arranged and applied to the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” that carry out a wish for the children with a terminal illness. Jakobi had a pirate ship built in his back garden to play on which still stands today, he was also granted another wish but sadly passed away before it came true.

CLIC Sargent is the only organisation to offer them all round care and support. During treatment they provide specialist nurses, doctors, play specialists, Homes from Home, specialist youth services, holidays, grants, in hospital and at home specialist social care and family support in the community.

Jakobi sadly passed away on Monday 11th July 2011 following a brave and courageous fight aged 7 years old. His memory lives on in our hearts and his legacy carries on raising money for other children who are in the same unfortunate situation.

I hope you get behind this great charity and help us to raise as much money for them as possible. A big thank you to the T4 Forum in helping us to do so.

Many Thanks
Paul and Kristina Hookens.

Re: Jakobi’s Wonderful Life

It's always difficult to know what to say when one reads a story like this. I guess when you share such a story it often meets with silence. Yet the number of people it touches, that it connects with can be great. I can't begin to think what you've been through. A story like yours, though, makes me feel very grateful and lucky for what we have - great kids and grandchildren, too.

It's so easy to take so much for granted. So easy to take others for granted. So easy to take life and living for granted.

It's not easy to know what to say, save to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your story. One small gesture is to pass it on to my daughter who works for the charity. You speak strongly in acknowledgement of the people who work in this field. I can see much more, now, why she chooses to work in the charity sector.

Thank for sharing, one can see how Jakobi lives on.
