In 2013 I lowered my 1998 T4 SWB at the rear using Eibach -40mm springs and thin polyurethane lowering plates to replace the black foam/rubber VW items. Front of the van was wound down to match and Bilstein B4's fitted all round. Ride and handling was very nice.

Some time ago I noticed a knocking from the rear of the van on bumpy roads. Got my girlfriend to drive the van whilst I lay in the back on the Altro floor and there is a definate knocking noise coming from under the floor/suspension???

Anyway I have been ignoring it for ages but want to solve it now! I:

I have looked at the shocks and they appear fine. Have bounced the rear of the van up and down when stationary and there are no knocks? Springs look good? I cannot figure out what the hell is making the knocking?

Any thoughts?

Did you get this sorted?

If the shocks have been removed at some point, corrosion coming loose from where the top bolt sits can increase the diameter of the holes the bolts sits in. Obviously creating play. Therefore noise. More so over bumps!
