Hi guys,
I've been thinking for a while now of mounting my 19" LCD DVD tv into my Caravelle.
It's one of these:

It has a transformer in the power lead that steps it down to 12v and has a current draw of 5amps. If I adapt an LCD monitor mount like this one:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=99665
so that I can mount it onto the roof of my caravelle, do you think this set up should work OK?. I dont have a leisure battery fitted so would this tv be too large a current draw for the battery to cope with?. I'm not against the idea of fitting a leisure battery but just not sure if I would need to or not.
The tv weighs only 4.7kgs and has VESA 100 mounting specification.

Right, I've just tried the tv in the 'velle and it works a treatT:T:T:.
The power supply to the tv when it's plugged in the mains supplies 60watts at 5amps, the power socket in the 'velle says maximum of 180watts and is protected by a 15amp fuse. Assuming I had a fully charged battery, approx how long could I run the tv before the battery would run flat?. Also, if I only use the tv when the engine is running, is there a chance that the alternator would not provide enough juice to supply the tv and charge the battery?.
Sorry for all the questions, I just need an electrical type person to help me out.

Have you tried it with the engine running ? Just one thing to note is that if the mains power suply steps it down to 12v then it will be fine when plugging it into 12v car socket when engine is not running, but once engine is running the alternator can be supplying around 14v, not sure if this would have any detrimental effect ?

most electrical stuff works say from 12-15v so would be worth a check as you might be able to just remove the transformer a put a *** lighter adapter on it

I have only tried it with the engine off so I'll try again with the engine running and hope it doesn't go BANG:gl.
I'll post a few pics soon for you guys to look at. If it all works out OK,then I'll have a twin 7" screen dvd player for sale in the classifieds section.

Finally got some pics of my TV.
I bought an aerial from Maplins for using the freeview tuner and it's not too bad a picture. Depends on the signal strength where I'll be camping though. Also bought a cut off power supply from Maplins that stops the TV if the voltage drops too low before it flattens the battery. Here is the set up:

The kids are happy now and long journeys should be a lot more enjoyable for them.
