You definately had no issues prior to fitting those lights?
Could U have damaged the cables by any chance when fitting?
Grounding does seem a reasonable source
Check with VAG & use U`r VIN to get exact pos of grounding points. They differI:
I don`t knoe what Van U got:*

Have you got the plugs in the right places?, if it's flashing you are feeding something from the brake circuit down to the indicator relay some how!.

ITS AN EARTH PROBLEM, the most common fault is when you put your brake lights on, everything else lights up like a Christmas tree. Had to fix many fords (escorts etc) in my auto electrics days. (bad earths can drive an auto electrician mad lol)   You can just put another earth on yourself, just splice (not scotchloc as these are ) into the original cable from the back light and re-earth, just make sure your earth point is clean.

I wouldn't say it's a bad earth if it wasn't doing this before you fitted them (unless you snapped a wire or something)

Either the plugs are in the wrong places or there is a fault with the new lamp holders.

Thanks for all the info and help. I gave the OE loom plugs a clean (to get rid of any oxidisation) which did the job they now work perfectly.T:
