Hi. I'm new to the forums and clueless about vehicles in general. I have a 2005 caravelle 2.5 We've owned it just under a year. Twice now my husband has been driving and in 6th it starts to lose power, foot full to the floor and topping out at 40. No other symptoms that we've noticed. Both times he has been able to pull over, switch the engine off and when starting back up after a minutes rest it has been fine! Any ideas what it could be-obviously a bit anxious to lose power and we had a terrible run with cars a few years ago so the moment there's even a squeak I'm assuming the worst. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks. No faults were showing on the dash (would limo mode show anything?) but yes, will get it to a garage as soon as possible anyway. Thanks for replying

I have no idea-I've googled the signs of a slipping clutch (yes, really that clueless ?) and will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a 2005 2.5TDi Shuttle (73000 miles) and mine has also gone into limp mode three times in the three years I have owned it, always on motorway driving and in top gear on long stints and can be after driving 100s of motorway miles the previous day with no problem. No warning lamps on the dash and same symptoms as your describe, with no power and maximum 1500 revs. Its a case of pull over turn engine off and on and away you go again but is disconcerting when it happens.

Mine is due to overboost caused probably by some sticky vane(s) but as it happens so infrequently and day to day none motorway driving is fine I've still not got around to sorting it. The overboost was captured by Greenflag the first time it happened and I called them out. It has been in to the local independent AudiVW specialist for servicing and didn't bring up any codes when they ran a full diagnostic although the mechanic did confirm its the turbo.

Same happened to me whilst towing in Devon. It sounds like the overboost. The garage should be able to give the waste gate a thoroughly good clean for about £120. I haven't had any problems since.
