Would somebody be able to help me please?
I have a T5 2007reg 1.9 and the problem is that the red light comes on for low antifreeze level at about every 100 miles. I have been in service and they can not find the problem, termostat seems to be all right as the heater works inside the car, they also checked the water pump and the head gasket. changed the sensor inside the radiator as they said that is a common fault and checked the other sensor. You can not find anything wrong until I drive around a 100 miles on a motorway. It's just one funny thing that I do not understand: on the cold engine in the morning when I open the antifreeze tank the pressure comes out and the antifreeze level comes up same on the hot engine. If someone knows what this might be please answer.

Sounds like head gasket or cracked cylinder head.

How do I know? I have the same problem.
Seems to be if you drive it over 60mph you lose water out of the overflow pipe on the expansion bottle.

Options are...
New engine from vw at £7500
Bare head at £950 from TPS plus labour.
Complete head from TPS at £2300 plus labour.
Or 1.9tdi engine out of a mk 4 golf around £450.
Or do what im doing....driving it till it goes bang. Been like it since February and not getting worse, just costing me a lot in G13 antifreeze lolLOL:

My A3 (AFAIK its the same header tank) does this. Tells me know there is no coolant though the header tank level is fine. if I take the lid off it pops up a bit so I was worried and asked my local VAG specialist. They said the sensor in the header tank is rubbish, but the whole tank with the sensor is only £10 to change (+ labour). They think is it the sensor that is the issue on mine and I agree so have ignored it. the message goes away again if I wait a minute or two. Might be worth doing this first before you get onto head gaskets... :*

Spoke to one mechanic, might be that it is only the waters tank cover need replacing, it stuck and doesn't let the pressure to come out thats why the pressure comes out even on the cold engine. I'll try that and let you guys know.

Antifreeze sensor light? Is there such a thing?

Do you get the three beeps on startup (I can't remember 100% if that's what it does).

On other VAG's a common problem is the coolant level sensor in the header tank, and it looks like the same part to me - dealer fix is to replace the header tank. Quick fix is to look inside the header tank (when the engine's cold) and de-scale the two sensor prongs - there are two metal rods - scrape these gently with a screwdriver blade.
