There have been a few comments/questions about cut bolts used to hold the lower ball joint onto the hub.

I had seen a few and not really thought about it when I changed ball joints last time as I had new bolts from VW.

But having to unexpectedly change a ball joint after 6 months I bought a new ball joint which came with bolts.

Fitted it and all seemed fine. Took it for a drive and then for the MOT where it failed. The bolts were not holding the ball joint tight and there was about a 6mm gap. Well it seems that the aftermarket bolts are not the correct length which explains the cut down bolts.

OE spec is 20mm long. Some pics.
