Can anyone help me out here with some info.

I have just bought a T4 multivan that has been lowered. The tow ball height now measures 345mm from the ground to the centre of the ball.

I think the height needs to be 350 at a minimum. Also having read through some threads do I need to fir heavy duty rear springs?

I will be towing a caravan so don't want it to be nose down loading up the van.

Just remembered I need to check the load rating on the tyres!

I think the easiest thing is to hook the van upto the caravan and see how it goes but looking for some advice from the seasoned towers.

I used to tow ma caravan with lowered t4 , I had to raise tow ball up to get it at reasonable height and make sure van packed well

I'm going to pop over to my van storage area tomorrow and hook the thing up.

My boots are extra load so that is one hurdle sorted but my tow-bar is a fixed swan neck type.

Are these a fixed height or can they be raised? I'm thinking I might have to buy a new tow-bar to gain some height.

Are heavy duty rear springs needed?

Hi changing the Towbar probably won't help as the position of the ball is set by VW so any towbar will have the ball within a few mm of what you have now
Also you can't raise the towbar as this is illegal. The only way to do so would be to use a drop plate and as the name suggest it's designed to drop
Anyone that has raised a towball with a drop will probably say it's fine but if your ever in an accident or Mr VOSA stops you and notices they can and will do you.

Different springs are the only answer I think. I have 2 sets standard ones for towing and lowered ones, takes 20 mins to change, although if you tow a lot I doubt it's suitable

I have just bough a black multivan. :ILU: Can I ask where you got hold of the bike rack?

Your van looks sweet in the pics.

I love a good fabrication thread. I dabble a little myself but with old E30's. Welding gives me the horn!

I can't take credit for the welding. It was the previous owner and his mate that did all the work on the arches. The vans looking a little rattier now. But when time allows in the future I'll get stuck into it.

Love the multivans, great cars/buses/vans. The bike rack is a VW job. Fiama do something similar as the OEM ones don't come up often.

Get a build thread going and keep us up to speed on what's happening with yours. T:

Would spring assisters be out of the question? I know theyve been used to stop rubbing but i don't think that was with a loaded van and towing etc.

I know you've said it sits too low already so replacement springs are prob only option.

We were using rubber spring assistors fitted inbetween the coils to hold ours up a bit for towing as we had cheap lowered springs that had sagged.
The assistors worked fine and are pretty cheap.
Or you could look into air lift or swap your springs .
Were now on eibach Springs and all is fine for us now.
It all depends on budget and how much you tow i suppose. T:
