Just put a deposit down on a 99 1.9d T4, only issue I'm aware of is it won't go into 5th gear (gear lever won't go in). All others are fine.

I don't pick her up till the weekend but thought I'd ask if anyone had any ideas what the problem could be or anyone had a similar problem and sorted it?

I lost fifth gear recently, and as you describe 'I physically couldn't get it in' (oo er missus), it turned out to be collapsed bearings under 5th. Total cost was £30 in parts.

i had a worn internal selector, about £30 p.m me if its that, not a massive job..

Right guys. Picked the van up and drove home at 40 mph due to no fifth gear. What's the first and easiest thing to check / try?

Check out the replace 5th gear thread in technical section, easy to get at on the end of the gear box behind passenger side front wheel.

Mine went recently on the way to scotland not good, if it needs replacing ensure to replace the oil as there will be damaged bits floating around in there!!
