t4's rust, if you repair it'll need doing again in a year or more...

I've seen some horribly rotted t4's & advised their owners/customers against wasting good money on repairing, '96-'97 model years seem to disolve at an alarming rate

is it worth looking for another van that has less rot?

To be honest i'd take a patch up for a year right now. I'll hopefully be in a better position to replace it next year.

how long is a piece of string?

I've no idea what £rates are in your area but an hour's welding can involve 2-5 hours prep work (depending on the job & the surrounding vehile)
£500 could easily go on a day

if interior or mecanical parts have to be removed for access OR fire-safety then this adds to the time taken..
then, if bodywork / filler & paint add another figure into the pot

nobody can quote blind...

My mate has a wee fiesta just his second run about for work and stuff, last mot it needed a small patch on sill, roughly 3inch x 3 inch , he got charged 30 quid for that alone.

So not sure how far 500 quid could take you .
