My 94 Velle to day van build thread.

I,ve been on for a while now but its time to share some progress pictures for those who are interested. I guess i have had my 1994 Caravelle (named by the mrs) rosie for about 4or 5 months now and am trying to do bits as an when i can afford to which is not that often. Although she is an old girl shes been loved throughout her life and had a low mileage so seemed like a good base to convert.

Here she is with stock rims and the addition of clear front indicators and the lower parts of the rear light clusters lightly spray tinted on the lower half. Next i removed the hydraulic wheelchair lift from the undercarriage which made a huge difference to the performance. Then onto the interior with Silent Gliss curtain tracks fitted and the mrs constructed some curtains and did a fantastic job of them too!

We planned a trip to the Peak District and didn't want to get cold so i purchased the Eberspacher from Ebay and i have to say its a superb bit of kit and highly recommended. I took the Caravelle interior out and blow up matress in for the trip and used a wooden chest to store the cooking utensils and food and our belongings went in a bag. It was a bit cluttered with no storage at yet but i just wanted to get out there with her and the mrs.

I have fitted alloys and lowered her since but my laptop got drowned in a flood while we were on holiday so photos to follow.

Future plans are;
Fit wind deflectors
Tint the windows
Black the pillars
Full width RNR bed
Removable galley/kitchen unit
Folding table
Leisure battery to run Eberspacher and domestic electrics
Decals of some description

Watch this space.:ILU:

how easy was it to fit the eberspacher ? I could do with one but have no idea what type to look for on ebay or what's involved in the fitting ?

Hi Jimmyjames,
Looking good mate, Certainly coming along quicker than mine, however i am trying to buy stuff as and when i have spare cash aswell, store it all, then have a fitting spree.

Out of curiosity, what are the wheels from as they look remarkably like the ones on my dads car and its not a VW ?

Got me thinking out the box again ! Which usually ends in disater ! I: LOL:LOL:

Thanks mate, I wish i knew what they were called but they are genuine Audi A4 alloys with dished seats not tapered ones and they came off a 2005 A4. The problem i have is wanting too many things and not having the money to buy them. I have just done the tinting myself (tricky job) but i am pleased with the results and it only cost me £15 for 6 metres! I will get some pictures taken of the curtains the mrs made and the exterior when i've blacked the pillars between the windows, then its just onto the interior!!

The full size bed has started its form from a couple of sheets of plywood watch this space for pics tomorrow! Good old B&Q with there panel saw made sure all my timbers were true and square which has made my life so much easier and so far its all surprisingly light.

I also purchased a pasatt v6 tdi intercooler today which i hope to fit asap.

Finally its starting to happenT:A:

What are parents good for?................................. Painting the bed boards! Get everyone involved, why not! Hope you like the hinges; steel brackets from B&Q angled by hitting it in a vice with a big hammer. The mechanism works like a charm and cost next to nothing to do!

The bed base awaiting paint with lots of storage at last! I love this forum photo album by the way; good work guys!

You can see my cheap hinges again. The whole thing including all fittings with most timber cut by B&Q on the panel saw including the second hand foam cost less than £100 cant be bad. I will post pitures when its in situ painted.

Finally go around to mounting the intercooler taken from an Audi V6 TDi today. Not that it matters but it had a 4 pin connector on it and cost next to nothing. I'm sure the dimensions are the same as the T4 ones as it fits the cutout on the bonnet vent a treat. Ive just got to sort out the pipework now and go for a blast!:D

By the way a note for anyone trying this: Unbolt the oil filler and rotate it dont cut it!

Some updated pictures for you all, i've been a busy boy recently!

Intercooler and pipework now in place EGR removed and plated off so the intake could be rotated. This was done very crudely as it was done in haste to make my pipework fit. Pictures of the pipework as requested.

Output pipe from turbocharger.

intake pipe from cooler and my crude adaptions (which work perfectly well incidently) Passat TDi inlet manifold to be fitted soon which will make things much tidyer as it is just a normal pipe fitting directly onto the inlet.

A rubbish picture of the intercooler in position with pipework.

And onto the ICE now. I fitted some 4"infinity Kappa coaial/component speakers with seperate crossovers in the dashboard when i first got the van which sound superb. I have purchased a cheap Kenwood 4 channel amp and amped these and the sound even better especially when paired with a Infinity 10"sub. The whole thing is stealth too as the wedge sub box fits under the RNR bed and the amplifier is behind the glovebox on the bulkhead. Just the sound deadening to do after xmas!
