So a Mate offered me the wheels off his merc wagon a while back for free!!!! WOOOHOO!.

He got some bigger Bling rims instead.

Not being in great nick & three tyres being shot & decided to refurb them myself.

Firstely tyres off for a tenner at my local place.

& off to be blasted by chiltern blasting at £20 a wheel

Got them back & they were pretty rough so an hour with 400 grit wet & dry

Smoothed off the worst of the roughness.

So firstly etch primer

two coats with some 800 grit wet & dry action between coats

Then filler primer to get a smooth finish!

Two coats plus wet & dry 800 grit & 1200 grit.

Then back to normal grey primer to go under the final colour coat(as recommended by the spray can).

this is after flatting back with 1200 grit wet & dry. Before final primer coat

Final grey coat

Much smoother to touch now & little visible roughness left(THANK GOD!)

So excitedly I started the colour coat Peugeot graphite grey metallic.

First wheel finished one coat of colour

I sprayed over the rim edge & down an inch+ past the bead area.

Wheel 2 coat one of colour

So far so good!

Now I need to

Flat back gently these & spray coat 2

final coat primer the other two & get first coat of colour on.

Flat back the second coat & spray lacquer

Light flat back again & final lacquer coat, wet flat back any imperfections & then scratch X polish the whole painted/lacquered surface & then polish with my buffer once the lacquer has gone rock hard(about 48hrs in my warm workshop, its like an oven!!)

Then tyres on spigot rings fitted find & sort some centre caps & finally get um on the van!

Cannot wait!

Now that would be bad LOL: I:
Good work fella.... Need to tackle mine soon.
Do they really need that much prep? Guess they must have been bad.

You can do heaps of prep and as soon as you put the first coat of gloss on you'll see any imperfections..

The top coat is only as good as those before it..

Hope these wheels come out sweet, they look like they will with all that work, and you dont get a ticket for parking too far from those evil wheel distroying curbs..I:

Progress!

Lacquered two wheels. two coats on each of petrol proof lacquer(important point).

Polished with scratchx & then megs gold class paste wax.

Happy with the finish, a few blemishes like drips of lacquer & stuff but I'll live with it.

sorted the wheels bolts out that were rusty messes

just got to finish the other two, receive & sort the wheels centres I've ordered. Get three tyres & fit them.....then time to sort the rust on the van!......NEVERENDING!
