Well today's progress has been eventful but satisfying to say the least.
Started off by fitting the Autowrap Sound Deadening to the floor, was a bit of a mission when there's only 1 pair of hands hahaha, so sticky and if you don't watch yourself it easily splits.
Decided to do it lengthways to minimalist cuts. Looked really good when it was down.
Then it was onto the 6mm ply boarding. Again decided to go lengthways in order to minimalist cuts, the big one took alot of measuring but was worth it. Once all the boards were cut to suit the van I used a trick of the trade from Princess Yachts and dot and dabbed loads of Marine Dow all over the ridges of the Sound Deadening.
The ply boarding was then sat in place and using alot of weight found from in my garage I placed it all over the ply boarding in the van therefore pushing it into the Dow in order for it to seal overnight.
Tomorrow's it's onto the silver foil insulation and heated floor element, can't wait for that to go in.
Also lastnight I ordered my flooring, should be here Friday ready for installation, so excited
And just for you guys this is what colour my units are going...
Well this morning I am very happy with my progress, I've managed to fully insulate the floor in preparation for the flooring that turns up tomorrow, really took my time doing it in order to get it right without any loose ends or saggyness.
Having finished the floor insulation it's now onto my modification which I feel is a huge Gamble, never seen it in a van before so time will only tell if it works or not hahaha.
Now, even tho it's a heated floor and with my calculations it should work perfectly with what I have in mind, I am hoping it works well enough to carry the heat across the rest of the floor using the metal foil to transfer it, technically and logically it should work hahaha. I am putting a 12mm floor down tho 🤔
It came in one long roll but carefully splitting it and making two runs equally spaced apart shouldn't cause an issue with heat transfer.
I have mate but bugger me that will be expensive hahaha
Well made the first big mistake since I've started the build and it's down to ordering not enough kit hahaha. My bad.
So I started the day off realising that I didn't cut out the hole in my silver foil insulation for my rear blower motor to blow out hahaha, silly boy but all resolved now.
My side step as seen below will be getting painted black and having an inlay with the same wood flooring on the base. The slot you see at the top of the step will illuminate purple.
Also painted my front step aluminium inlays so they match the rear when done
Made a booboo and didn't order enough flooring, plenty of I didn't stagger the joins but it's how it's meant to be done, oh well. Await another delivery I suppose
More top work there mate
How easy / difficult was it to get the window out? I'd love to replace my sliding doors static window with a slider.
Also...please tell me you're replacing the screws on the steps for black ones? My ocd spiking 😂
Started to work down the mot fail sheet.
Boot catch and latch now replaced.
Rear brake pipes replaced.
Black smoke and also boost / no performance sorted... found leaking intercooler / charge air cooler had let go so a new one was fitted and sorted that out cheap easy fix.
Next job is the...

Hi.. I’ve bought some 20” wheels with 255/50/20 tyres. Not fitted yet. How low could I drop the 2004 T5 without to much compromise ? I’m thinking around 35mm, but it’s just a guess. Anyone got any pictures of theirs with this set up ?
