No you cannot be sure because future legislation may change. But its going to be ok for quite a few years yet and in the mean time can you be sure your DPF wont need replacing at ÂŁ1200? Or any of the many sensors at ÂŁ200 a time. I just figured that if the test can ever tell that mine doesn't work any more then I will get a new filter fitted, just as I would have had to if it had failed I:. The beauty of the way Martin does it is that it is impossible to tell that its been deleted by a visual inspection. And because all the gubbins are still there you can always put a filter back in. In the mean time I have a free breathing engine that will have NO DPF problems.

At the end of the day you have to decide whats important for you and if it causes you worry then don't do it. But if you do, enjoy it before the fun police make life so boring that theres no point living anymore.
Thanks for that Wiretensioner, so all the DPF sensors etc are there still and able to be turned back on if you ever needed to replace the actual filter thing?... i guess it would need re-mapping again to cope with the returned DPF though (???). Guess like you say it comes down to if the uncertainty bothers you and how important the extra ÂŁÂŁs are to you should an MOT issue arise...

Did they ask about the DPF part of the remap? Did you tell them? Just trying to decide whether to go for the full DPF removal or not

On another point and again this is just my understanding of it and I am sure Martin will correct me if I am wrong. I had 2 different jobs done by Pendle. A remap and a DPF removal. So the DPF removal is not part of the remap. I.E. you can have a remap without DPF removal if you wish, conversely you can have DPF removal and delete without a remap. I just choose to have them at the same time as its a long way to visit him twice.
I guess the issue is if the removal of the dpf system on a engine system makes the engine no longer compliant with whatever euro number it was designed to meet then is it technically illegal to use on the road???? I really don't know if that's true but googling it certainly looks to open up lots of debate. And from what I read I suspect it is true. If that is the case then that would certainly worry me but I realise may not worry others. No idea what implications there would be for insurance as it gives the insurance wiggle room in case of a claim etc

Do the research and make your own decision. Theres a whole hell of a lot of things that we all do that will invalidate your insurance if you get caught. Eating, drinking, smoking, talking, speeding, getting distracted, mobile phones etc etc etc. Life is at times a bit of a risk. We don't all do all those things whilst driving but we all do some of them and the list is endless. I would go so far as to say that most people with a Vdub camper van have some modifications that they consider irrelevant or are simply unaware of but could invalidate their policy, they just dont know it? I am not condoning these things but its a fact of life that they happen.

Personally I see the DPF issue as another green tax and not an insurance issue. If euro legislation can put a 3.5ltr SLK gas guzzler into a lower tax bracket than an older cars with smaller engines and lower emissions because it has some new fangled tech on it but it still only does 19 MPG then I feel ok with my decision. The world has gone potty!

Thats all I am going to say on the matter .
I think that is all very sensible, there are tonnes of mods out there that are "not for road use" but of course people buy them and use them... Hid lights without the controls etc are an example or even bright standard bulbs... As long as the person knows they are potentially risking something they can make up their own mind. Wickedtintz point about not publically announcing your van is illegal is probably good advice. Lots of people in the job read these forums.
