Hi
this is my first attempt at converting my 2009 T32 LWB 2.5 TDi tailgate. Hopefully I will be using it to tour Europe or as my son puts it - follow him around when the bands he is a tour manager / sound engineer for, are touring.
During the first and easy stage - ripping everything out - I've come across a couple of surprises.
Best being that VW when they built it installed a second battery with split charge relay etc for me. money saved
I'm now waiting for the rear side windows to be installed before continuing with insulation, lining etc. This wait has made me have a rethink about my design - or rather the price of a pop top has - as I fancy being able to have a shower.
Also as there will probably be only me in it 99% of the time I started wondering if a poptop was worth it. I've decided not to hence my decision to get a roof rack for the rear end like in the picture.
My aim would be to have a water tank and a solar panel - possibly heat the water - on the rack. A tent over the tailgate would allow me to shower and not scare any locals!
The question is has anyone seen a low profile - flat & slim - tanks that could lay as described? I think a capacity of 30 litres should be good. I can't get CAK to answer their phone or emails and google keeps showing me ones out in the far east of nowhere or hold 2 million gallons.
Also any advice on a suitable solar panel - especially if could be used to heat the water in said tank would be great.
Anyway thanks in advance and I will keep updating the build - or rather my questions lol
Cheers
JASB
