Hi All

I'm new to the VW world, (mostly having cars) but recently I have been given the permission from Mrs Nezbo to get a van; I have a budget of 4.5k to 5k.

My question is do i spend the money on a T4 or a T5; they will both have to have the 1.9 engine?

I recon the T4 will be in better condition and maybe better mileage but I intend to keep it for a long time and turn it in to a bike/day camper van but a T5 will be newer and I like the look of them more

Cheers,
Nezbo

You might be lucky, but for that money it'll be an 85 PS and have at least 100K on the clock. On the other hand, for that money, you'd get a half decent T4. I'd be looking at something like these in your position. If you go for a van that someone has started converting, or blinging up a bit, the price is going to start increasing.

I had a T4 2.5 102 and it would do 39-42 mpg no problem. It was regularly serviced and I had it from 72k to 117k miles. Think of it like this, the 1.9 is pulling the same body as the 2.5. It's going to struggle. I doubt there are many 1.9 T4's that will do over 40mpg.
