Hello fellow T4/5-ers,
Just to say Hi - have owned a T5 Caravelle for just under 4 years (first motor I ever bought from new !) and I must say it has been an awesome beast ! I went for the 130PS, which I think was a mistake, as I'm now of the opinion that more power would have meant less wear on the poor thing (now at about 125K) - bit no complaints on performance, comfort or durability and would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone (and frequently do !)

As I'm out of warranty now, I have had the last service done by the local family garage, but I'm a little concerned that you do need some specialist knowledge - for example, have found that my drive shafts are excessively worn, and not sure about a non-specialist doing the work...

Does anyone happen to know of an experienced mechanic near to Petersfield, in Hampshire ?

All the best,

bigbagdad

can't help with that area.

surreyautoservices.com - if the guys name is Gav then he's been recommended on this site by someone and he's mobile.

Not sure a more powerful motor would have given you any harder wear except the 'T32/T30' transporters have a higher load rating with bigger brakes and maybe different suspension (?).

You can get the van re-mapped for more power/better fuel economy. Martin at Pendle Performance is apparently the man for this, though a long way from you as remapping must be done properly (rolling road etc). Add better brake pads next change and you'll be laughing.

Drive shafts are apparently not difficult at all and there's articles on here if you're that way inclined (I'm not!).

Cordwallis VW Maidenhead (Darren) have some kind of discount scheme for vans beyond 3 years, and Citygate Colindale in London are good dealers but as I say, can't help with your area.

Good luck.
