Yesterday, the electronic speedo on our 1997 T4 2.5TDI with intercooler just stopped working and at the same time the fuel guage warning light beeped and lit up with a third of a tank still in it as I turned slowly left.

Any ideas please. Could these be related?

Someone mentioned the speed distance sensor?

Thanks, Paul

Wiring loom which runs across the top of the cam cover.. Had exactly this fault on mine and when I inspected the cables inside the wiring conduit I found one broken. I was lucky, only found one but there could be several. I chopped out the bad section and soldered a new piece in.

I changed the speed sensor first thinking it was that but still had the fault.

Also, check the connectors on the back of the instrument panel.
The loom is VERY tight.
It's a yearly job for me to remove th epanel, tug at the loom, and refit.
Every year, when the sun comes out, my fuel gauge drops, the beep goes!
The fix lasts until after the next winter.......

Have to say though....never had the speedo problem.....but something easy to check.
I've got it down to around 15 mins to do the fix.
Steering wheel does NOT have to come off to remove the instrument panel.....just needs a "wiggle" to get it out.
6 screws in total (I think.....I do it blind now after the eleventeenth time...LOL)
