Morning all,

Following on from my spring clip joy yesterday, whilst I had my intercooler off (2.5 tdi 102) and the pipework from the turbo off, I noticed that was a light film of oil in certain places in the pipework. It wasn't a huge amount of oil at all, just a very slight film. Enough to feel with your finger, but not enough to mark a clean rag.

Normal? A sign of a worn Turbo?

Cheers

Ah right, I see. That's good news then, I was half expecting to have to add another big part to the "bits I need to fix" list :)

If you look at the black pipe connectin the air box to the turbo there is smaler black hose that connects on to the top of it (about 1" OD). This is the crankcase breather, it has a hot air/oil mix breathing into the turbo intake pipe.

You can get whats called an oil catch tank which goes between the crankcase and the TIP and it basically seperates the oil from the air and keeps the IC and turbo running cleaner.

Hope this helps
