evening all,
i managed to get hold of a nice cheap pine bunkbed for the kids. we want to paint it white, but its varnished. is it possible to paint straight over the varnish or strip it all down to the wood?

The best result in the long run would be a strip to wood - but its a big job unless you have a decent sander.

key it back with glass paper and prime it, if the primer holds you know the paint will.

no need to strip it all off but you will need to key it ( take the shine off ) glass paper is best but you can use wire wool or even a green scotch pad. T:

two coats of satin wood.


if i had time.
I'd sand it.
two coats of quick drying primer.
