About 5 years ago the previous owner of my van filled it up half way with petrol, then filled it to the brim with diesel to dilute it and kept on topping it up.

Do you think 5 years on and many many miles after would cause any damage to the fuel pump?

Its not ideal and the best thing he could have done was to drain and start again. Diesel and petrol dont mix well in fact the petrol sits on top of the diesel. Petrol can damage IP seals but if its been ok i wouldn't worry.

What is the reason for asking? Is your IP going bad?

Its just gone in for a major service as its been running a bit lumpy and noisy and they said the fuel pump timing is well out. I just wondered if the bad running could be something to do with the pump aswell and if its something they would check whilst doing the timing? Check the pump for any signs of damage ?

Was a bit shocked when someone told me how expensive it is to replace the diesel pump
