Anyone know where I can get a power inverter 12volt to 240volt enougth to run 6 x led downlighters which use 240 volts and convert to 12volts using transformers
Cheers :*:)

just cut the transformers of the led's and use the van(12v to 13.8v) to power the leds they are a lttle over powered but dont worry about it. using a invertor and transformer is a realy inefficient way to do it and will hammer your battery

Tried that but not enough power to run the downlighters really dim when used not bright enough that's why using inverter T:

hmm odd, 12v is 12v wether fed from inverter or battery, has your battery go enough juice?

try lights with engine running, if there bright with engine on and not when off leasure battery could be on way out, if still dim ide say you have a current draw some were

could well be, a power inverter will suck the life out of the battery, and i think the most expencive ones are still only 90% efficient so inverting then transforming back down your gona loose a fair bit of battery life.

leds should be fine to run of your main battery as long as you dont need them for days without running the engine. They draw little power,my leds were on for a week by mistake and it still started

12v is NOT always 12v....12v AC is about 7.07v DC (rms)....but LEDs do not run from rms, they see a "peak" voltage, which is about 18v DC PEAK...but for a short time!

Really good, but confusing if you don't understand it...

So called 12v household lights run from a high frequency AC supply, in a square wave.
They run bright 'cos thay are run to the limit ON THE SUPPLY THEY CAME WITH!

You're thinking about running some 10 quid lights via a 70 quid inverter, to use more power than halogen bulbs would take!

Just buy the genuine stuff from Upspex and have the job done.

all the leds ive used have used a 230v to 12v dc driver so its a small hike to 13.8vdc,yes they will be bright and not last as long but should be fine for the amount of time there on in the real world, they are designed to run for years. its only been the replacement led bulbs ive seen that run on a/c.ie to replace a mr16 or mr11 12v bulb

Anyone got an Enigma machine?
lol

iv got a set of under cubard lights from wiks, they came with a 230 ac- 12v dc transformer, i swapped the transformer and just fed from a 12v source in the van. and there bright.

also as said before if they work fine with the van engine on, but not with it off, id say your leasure battery is a bit duff,

altho i would check you have good connections every were, all the terminals are tight good earths ect. dosent take much with 12v to stop it working right.
