After stripping my dash out to respray, and replacing it and also washing down the engine bay. I seem to have now a problem with my glow plug in the sense that it no longer shines up on the dash. It started with the relay (109) clicking constantly, and the van would start up and then cut out from time to time. Now I have bought a brand new relay and it will not start at all, and I have no idea what the problem could be.
Is there anyone out there that has had the same problem or could shine some light on this, because it is looking like I will have to tow it to a VW specialist, that I really cant afford at the minute. So any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance

Take the cover off relay 109, wedge the contacts closed with a standard fuse or similar, then try and start it. If it starts it normally means the black and white earth wire is open circuit between the relay 109 contact 85 or 86 I think and ECU a common problem. Look up my old posts for further information I had same snag, good luck T:

Thank you so much I have done what you said and jammed the relay closed and now everything works even my electric windows and mirrors so it looks like it might just be the black and white wire . The van is going in for a service on Thursday and at least now I can perhaps shin some light on the problem so hopefully it will cost me so much in Labour.
Once again thanks for your help

Great A: one thing I forgot to mention don't leave the relay shorted out when your not using the van. I think now there is no doubt an open circuit some in the looming which goes from the rear of the fuse box through the bulkhead to the ECU. Often chafe's through at the bulkhead area may be worth splitting the tubing and having a look. It is surprising how thin these cables are.
