Whilst wild camping in the western isles of Scotland, I found several public showers dotted round the place. Most are coin operated, usually £1 and are set in public loos, information centres etc. maybe we could build up a list similar to the wildcamping thread?

There is a list of facilities for the outer Hebrides here:

http://www.visitouterhebrides.co.uk/visitor-info/facilities/showers

As well as a couple not in the above list.

The public loos at Berneray harbour , North Uist

And at Laxay on the road between Tarbert and Stornoway, at the back of the historical society, next to the bus shelter.

On the mainland

the Seaman’s mission at Mallaig ( next to the roundabout) now has a bunkhouse upstairs which the public can use for a small fee, also laundry facilities and a good café and 2nd hand bookshop below. Right next door to a co- op, so handy for stocking up while waiting for the Skye ferry

There is long term parking (and a wild camping location at “B”) on the map

Public toilets in Kingussie, in the cairngorms by the car park (attendant on duty)

Tobermory visitor centre, Ledaig rd car park, Tobermory, on the isle of Mull - also has laundry.

Glenuig village hall, Lochailort, highland

Other options are leisure centres and the motorway services all have showers.

Can anyone add to this list? :)

Regarding the Leverburgh Showers: Were were there in May and parked up in the pier car park waiting for our slot for going out to St. kilda. We were told that there was a shower in the new ferry waiting room and toilet block but it was locked up. The guy who runs the Butty Bus seems to have the contrat for cleaning the toilets but he was quick to inform us that there were no showers. I'm sure that there is one there ( it isn't marked ) but the cleaner guy doesn't want anyone using it for some reason. If anyone can tell me otherwise, I'd be interested. I meant to contact Caly-Mac to ask them but I never got round to it.

Cheers,
JimmyW
