I disconnected my battery for a few minutes and now the radio needs recoding. Does anyone happen to know the default code.. When switched on it displays SECURE and then 1000. Its the original radio in a 2004 T4 . Many thanks.

Every radio has a unique code.....that's why it's there.
A "Default" code would be useless as it is there to stop people nicking the radio and selling it on....think about it.
Try taking it out and see if there's a lable on top (shouldn't be!......but most people, like me, use a felt tip pen to put the code on...no-ones gonna wanna steal it anyway!) or look in the original user manual.
BTW....what "is" the original.....they came with various units installed...mostly Blaupunkt (or Grundig), but different model numbers.
Radio, radio/cassette, radio/CD.....
Can't believe it's the 1st time in 18 years the battery has been disconnected!!!! (Must have had at least 3 new batteries in that time...maybe 5!)

BTW..they stopped making T4s in 2003....so yours must be "old stock", stored/converted, and eventually sold..
It could even be a 2000 model as far as you know.....check the details on the lable on the fuse box cover, or the back of the manual.
The VIN should also tell you date of manufacture.

If it started life as a fleet van, the code could be under a cup holder or ash tray also. I remember when Ford Transits came out with a security coded radio hearing they could be reset by leaving them in a freezer. I don't know if there is any truth in this.

I agree with Gaz, they are all different otherwise it would be a big flaw in the system if it had a one code fits all.
If ever I take one out and know the code, I also write it on the radio casing also if there is no handbook, inside the glovebox lid, nobody breaks in for radios any more, they are far too cheap these days.

The freezer thing is an internet myth but there are companies on the net that if you give the serial number of the radio, they can get the code, normall seems to be about ÂŁ10 for the service. Or if you take the log book into a VW dealer, they can get it for you, they may want payment but some friendly folks do it for free.

Sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for your answers. Yes, it makes sense to have a unique code. It probably is a 2003 build but registered in early 2004 on a 53 plate It's an Autosleepers Clubman motorhome with a T4 cab . I'm not too worried if I cant re set the radio as it is the original Panasonic radio/cassette player and not particularly good anyway. I haven't changed it as I wanted to keep everything as original as possible.

VW never fitted Panasonic as far as I'm aware!
Grundig/Blaupunkt were originals...as you would expect from a German car maker.

Original "looking", but I wouldn't advise anyone to buy one!
I wish I hadn't.
