how can a company make some one redundant when at least 5 others started after them but as they are eastern european or youngsters on less monies they get to keep their jobs but the person that has more experiance has the door shown to them :(:(

seems that as its more cost cutting (better bonuses for directors) not job securing as you do not get rid of thoses that can do the job and keep those that need consent supervision?????????

When times are hard companies reduce costs by getting rid of the most expensive staff, it's not a good long term policy, but it solves a short term problem.

(re sig: you I do, it's what you call the Union Flag, when it is flown on a boat ;))

Gone are the days of 'last in, first out' - now it's all a case of 'who costs the least to employ'.........

Even the ambulance service is looking at ways of providing a 'service' on the cheap, by getting rid of EMTs / Techs and replacing them with cheaper to employ 'ECAs' (ie drivers with a smattering of first aid).

Bottom line - get the cheapest available workforce on the ambulances and someone in a car to 'stop the clock' - after all, patient care is a thing of the past and it's ALL about getting there in 8 minutes - no matter what the outcome for the patient........

Sorry - you've started me of now............... :(

Sorry if you just lost your job Steve, as Neal said the quickest way to save money in the short term. Its a cut-throat world. I'm sure whether the staff are eastern Europeans has nothing to do with it though.

The Union jack is also known as the "Royal Union Flag" in Canada and other commonwealth states. I personally think the "Union" in the jack is probably overlooked by most who fly the flag.

lol opposite were i work, just finished my apprenticeship at a steel works, the guy iv been learning under is due to retire in 6 months, but they wont take his voluntary redundancy as its cheaper to get rid off me now and let him retire and re hire some one.

the thing that really kicks is that the company hasn't made a loss in 75 years, and last month made over 900,000 in PROFIT, not turn over that's genuine profit in the bank.

guess its what happens wen accountants start running the place

hope things work well for you bud

oz

also it was originally called the flag of the union, and was later shortened to the union jack.

i think it may have been mrs lwb steve whos been made redundant ??? sorry to hear mate :(,a lot of companys also keep people on revolving 6 month contracts although they have been employed for years-that way they dont have to pay redundancy etc

It's all **** in my opinion...especially when you work for a small firm
and the owner, director or whatever he calls himself makes people redundant
the same time as buying a house abroad or renovating the one at home...and is first in the queue for any small firm handouts...

And as for contributory jobseekers allowance that's another load of codswallop...
I got made redundant in November after 11 years and could only sign on
for 6 months!!! so I now sign on just to get stamp paid and get treated as if I'm brain dead at the same time.......

If I had a soap box....

The Mrs by the way as Paul's had to go to London to get work...

i got parked up by my company at 3pm today and told to go home, no work. They know i wont go as i live in the truck all week and home is 2 hours away. Yet they order me to start at 5am, knowing going home would be impossible. They just try to avoid paying me for my night out.
They say work is slow?
Then 2 Polish agency lads from my depot arrive at 4pm, get loaded and leave away down the road.
Not a happy chap! Gonna take the rough with the smooth and try and ride the storm.
Gotta just try keep my gob shut and not rise to it!
Good luck with ur situation mate.
