Hi all,

Well, our T5 doesn't get out much, and has sat around for 3 weeks -- now it won't start. I tried jumpstarting it from a friends car (12V battery, though only 40Ah), and didn't get anywhere. The battery didn't seem to charge at all.

The battery is about 5 years old, and the van is 2.5TDI.

We've got two alarms in there (but nothing else fancy). Does a flat battery after that time sound reasonable, or should I be looking for a drain somewhere?

I'm resigned to changing the battery, as have been told that five years is about the expected life. Does anyone have any tips for changing the battery? What tools will I need? The van isn't parked that near our place, so I'll need to take the right stuff first time...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Battery in good condition should last for approx 4 weeks, but sometimes things like radio and management control should shut themselves down after a short time of not being on, but if they dont shut dwon then they will trickle drain the battery.

Had this on a Passat afetr 1 week away to return from holidays.

Turn everything off manually that you can.
