Hi, had my van serviced and MOT'd today down at Streetwise in Bristol - they've done a good job for me in the past. Anyways, got an advisory on the MOT - "Engine/Gearbox mounting (s) defective". Only an advisory but the cost if I want to put it right is £232.40, incl VAT.

Does that sound like a fair price? Is it the sort of job you'd leave with a specialist like Streetwise or get the van into a trusted back street Joe Blow and pay less? Any advice duly appreciated...cheers...T:

Thanks for the replies guys! Same engine as you Prawny Paul, it's a T30 2.5 130bhp 2004. It's both front and rear mounts that need doing. At £83 for the mounts, even allowing a couple of hours at £40/hr, it's still £100 less than they're quoting....

Yeh, that's more or less what they said at the garage.
Ive been down mount route and all was looking good for a week then new mounts must have softened and back to jerk/clonk but not as bad as before now suspecting driveshaft or even worse DMF

eek...sounds expensive!??!

You know what tho, a mate who knows a bit about cars drove out and he said he thought there was some play in the drive shaft. Dunno. The van's done nearly 100k and they were carrying out a service and MOT at the time, so I assumed they'd had a good poke around and saw what was wrong. The other advisory I got was that the anti-roll bar bushes were deteriorated. They also noted that the gear stick linkage was a bit clunky and would benefit from a stripping out and greasing. All in all about £350 of work...:(

hello people well i think my rear engine mount has gone because i get engine movement when the auto box changes gears up and down and when i come to a stop it clonks bak and forward. If i drive slow motion forwards and tap the brakes abit i can feel a rubbery clonk/knock, i checked underneath at the back and the big mount on the turbo side has a slight movement when idle but cant tell if it is that mount but im sure it is cos when i tap the brakes when in motion i i feel it on my side. Anyone have any advice on it? Its the mount with four little legs on it. Thanks

Give it a lever with a bar.

I have changed a few and the last one had over an inch of play in it.
