Hi guys just wanted advice on servicing costs?

Just bought the van its a 2.5tdi, unfortunatley didnt get any service history as i got it fairley cheap, the guy i bought it from said the timing belt had been done! as i have no evidence of this, to make sure I'm gunna book it in for a timing belt, water pump, all belts,a wheel bearing, and oil/filter oh and the g12 coolantA:

just wanted to know where I can buy all the bits?,
are the main stealers the best place as they are charging a fortune for the bits?
Whats europarts or gsf like?
any advice appreciated i promise when i've shelled out for this lot I'll get registered:D

are all main stealers priced the same?
oh and what else should i have done i.e pulleys etc...

i get all the ancils from GSF, they can cross check against your reg number and make sure you are getting the right parts.

never let me down yet, and normally very well priced - once they see your face a few times the trade prices get liberated easily

down my neck of the woods - 288 quid for a service form stealer. 148 quid from local light commercial specialist, and that was full monty. Still got stamp in book, and it was done by a good mechanic, not the apprentice at the stealers.

Flushing the coolant, changing the fuel filters and air and pollen filters is dead easy on the 102, have a search - there are loads of posts on how to do it. I always do this myself with bits from GSF and it saves me a few bob, I get the oil done by my local VW friendly garage ( cos I'm lazy and cant be bothered with getting the undertray on and off, siezed sump plugs and disposing of used engine oil) so that costs me about £80 if I remember right. As for the belts Id get them done professionally. All the belts and pulleys etc come in the kit so as you've paid for them they should be fitted I should hope. Mine needs doing in 700 miles so thats the way I'd go. As for prices, the 102 is the most expensive for the belt change but it seems to vary, Id phone a few garages. Plymouth has a few that only do VW and are cheaper than the stealers prices. :ILU:

where it comes to actual service parts, filters etc, the main dealer prices are competitive, i recently got a touran, wasnt due for the service but i got all the service parts from a main dealer (not us as we cant buy car parts direct from vw any longer) i also needed front discs and pads and a cambelt kit with water pump, it was very reasonably priced indeed, i used to go down the after market but not any longer

tbh most of the basic stuff you can all do yourselves.

oil air and fuel filters are easy peasy..

bleeding brakes, gearbox oil, brake pads checking/changing no problem..

just a little confidence and a few tools..

then the money you save can be spent on beer- holidays or for the big jobs that are beyond your scope..

if anyone wants a few pointers in the south wales area just pm me .. its free!!T:

maybe org a one day mechanics course for numptys..????

well i use semi synth for the 2.5 .. and 100 quid is good for labour, but what about the parts?
i bet he makes a fair wedge on markup.

frinstance i just purchased oil filter oil and a drive belt -cost? 26 quid all in.

and would your man charge a oner for labour if you supplied the parts?

best of luck anyway , admittance of numptyism is the first step!

yep thats just labour i am gunna get parts my self have got prices from about 4 places and will get cheapest parts from cheapest place, but gunna get the timing belt kit and water pump from stealers as i dnt want these parts to fail. comparing prices if i get some of the stuff from different places rather than all from stealers will save over £100!, am looking at about £300 for all the bits.

but the differnence is amazing, got price of timing kit from euro which was about £50 and about £125:eek: from dealers but i supose u pay 4 what u getT:
