Took our T4 camper into our local VW dealership today, have been meaning to do the fuel filter for some time and was tempted to do it myself but looked alot of hassle with two batteries (leisure battery) to deal with in the way, so contacted our local VW dealer and they gave us some discount if we had the oil / oil filter changed at the same time, so we went for the fuel filter, as well as an oil & filter change, new copper sump plug washer all for £150 which I didn't think was so bad really for a main dealer they gave the van a good check over and said shes in good condition throughout (always reasuring to hear) :D

Anyway after getting home took a look under the bonet and wasn't too impressed to say the least, although rather trivual I found the following things that they had left or done, well cheesed off, so have emailed them telling them of my dissatisfaction, expect this kinda thing at a back steet discount garage but not a VW main dealer!

The issues I found are as follows:

1) The battery housing cover was not fitted correctly
2) The pollen filter housing was only secured with one clip and was loose
3) The pollen filter had been removed or moved and was hanging loose
4) Small plastic box (something to do with leisure battery) screwed to body work in front of battery had been left loose and unsecured
5) Bonnet release cable had not been secured in its clip on the side of pollen filter housing
6) Oil badly spilt over the alternator and running down filler neck

Am I being really picky here or would you guys be Pi**ed off too?

only took me about 20 mins to rectify but not really the point is it?

I dont think your being to picky at all, if you take your car/van/ pride and joy to have work done be it Vw or any other garage i,d expect it to come back as it was or i,d have done the same as you, sent un-happy email or gone straight back down there with my very un-happy face on I:

My have only taken you 20 mins, but thats 20 mins you shouldnt have had to waste, on the bright side, if it took you just 20mins, it would have probably taken them just as long if not longer and would have cost you another hours labour I:

no mate you are not being picky...

just bl$$dy companys these days who feel they can take your money and give you a bad service..

Bosch fuel filter £8
Bosch Oil filter £6
and thats not me buying it trade?

oil for me in a 5ltr would be about £18 for a descent engine oil,so imagine what they pay for it...?

so for me £32 in parts.....for them not even £20...so thats £130 labour to do a job i could do in 25mins if i had to remove a engine tray as well...draining the oil would take longer than the job..LOL:

nice work if you can get it..no way that job took more than a hour,if so the tech dont know what he is doing...£130 a hour labour..

I had a golf before the T4 - When I collected it from the main dealer after a service some of the screws + screw caps were missing that fit the plastic engine cover.....made me wonder what other things they hadn't done that I could not see....

Never been to a main dealer again and that was 13 years ago - will NEVER go back either - local independent specialists are far better.

In my experience, main dealers are no better than a trusted back street garage.
When it comes to routine servicing, you may as well do it yourself or take to a independent VW specialised.

PS ; you are not being fussy

Thanks chaps

Was begining to wonder if I was over reacting.... think the worst offence was the box screwed to the bodywork just left dangling, it has a live feed going to it from the battery and could possibly be a potential hazard should something make contact with the body I'm guessing? anyway put the screws back in and made it secure again T:

Re: above post....
it was a fixed quote so they couldn't charge extra mate, it took them longer to do than expected cause they said 1 hr when we dropped it off (then went into town) an hour later they rang to say it was taking longer than expected because of the two batteries - dont know if they had to remove both? but they are def in different to before, wider gap between them & further forward hence they couldnt be bothered to fix the box back to the bodywork as it was tight up against it, too much like hard work for them I guess :*

What really annoys me is the idiot who carried out the work probably didn't think for one minute I'd check under the bonnet as soon as I got home and have to rectify his lazy ass mistakes hsy:

Anyway thanks for making me feel better about complaining, was actually feeling slighty guilty about it (dunno if I'll get a reply - if I dont I may well escalate it to head office just for the fun of it)

Yep exactly my thoughts, if they cant do simple things like what they missed it makes you wonder what the rest of the work is like that they carried out, used another VW dealership in suffolk last time and couldnt fault them, but dont think I'll be going back to these clowns in a hurry, will see if they make any attempt to rectify the situation or my rescue my custom (if they even care) we'll see I:

bill them for your time. i put money on a lad doing the work and a tech checking his work poorly and telling him to leave the second battery and black box as non standard spec. cant believe what main Stealers (not a spelling mistake) charge for simple jobs my brother paid £190 for oil and filter on a BMW 330d this week robbery.

Aren't they all supposed to be VW trained though, think they refer to them as "VW trained technicians" dont they?
or is that just bullsh*t like the work those clowns did today? H:

Quote from their website:

Despite sending an email noting my dissatisfaction I've not received a response, (will see if they reply sometime today) so am now in the process of putting it in writing and taking the matter up with their head office, anyone living in North Norfolk like me will know there is only one VW main dealer so I don't have to mention any names. :no W:

Update:

Sent another email to the service advisor telling her I thought it was only fair to advise her that I was in the process of putting
my dissatisfaction in writing and contacting their head office, I then get a reply from the branch manager, this is the response I got......

Mr *****

Please use my email as confirmation that I have received your communication, once I have completed
my research I will contact in the early part of the week.

Kind regards

Mike

Yeah like they really care :dunno:

Will see what the outcome of all this is, but a simple appology for the dissapointing service I received would have been
a good start? (guess thats too much to ask) Now I have to wait until next week for them to complete their research I:

Customer services... ain't it just great!

I wouldnt bother waiting for them to get back to you, i,d send email to head office straight away, also if your on facebook theres a VW page on there, seen several people post on their wall about the troubles they've had and they look in to it on your behalf, maybe worth a try.
Why should you wait any longer for them, you should be top of their priority list T:

had a few cars now, with full dealer service history, plus wagons at work, that have plastic caps, covers etc missing.and its only the main dealers that have serviced/repaired them,so....its them that are leaving these trim items off:*
the likely answers you will get are leisure battery etc are none standard fitments....unfortunate oversight refitting etc.....
once the vehicles out of warranty, avoid em like the plague!T:

Yeah I understand the non standard items and yes they will probably use that as excuse (Still a poor excuse if you ask me)

Theres no excuse for the other issues, the pollen filter and housing are standard fitment, as is the bonnet release cable that was left loose (Yeah OK I know it's very minor - but still shouldn't happen) also well annoyed that the lazy ass muppet spilt approx half a litre of oil all over my alternator, engine block around injectors and down the outside of the filler neck, as well as the big puddle all over the sump tray, and made no atempt to clean it up, (as the saying goes...." the engine was clean enough to eat from before" :() you think after lifting the bonnet and seeing how clean she was they would take more care than usual, total lack of respect for our pride and joy, it's not a piece of junk and represents an investment of over 14k of our hard earned money :*

Think their lack of concern in their lazy ass response sucks too, as someone else posted you would think they would give my complaint priority instead of ignoring the 1st email, then after 2nd email of complaint sending a two line reply saying they are going to research it and get back to me next week, (reasearch what exactly?)

I dont think this is gonna go anywhere TBH but as the days go by I'm just getting more annoyed about it, an appology at the first contact would have been enough probably to let it go I: Will give them the benefit of the doubt for now, even though I realise they don't give a sh*te, and probably wont admit or resolve anything, before I decide to take it further!

Rant over H: :grphg
