I am looking to get some sidebars for my T5, prices range from £91 - £300 and this isn’t including fitting, is there really anything major that could be different between different types, the way I’m think is that if the cheaper ones only last 2 years and the most expensive last 6, I could just get the cheaper and replace more often, or are there, as I said, major differences - any feedback welcome
Get stainless steel versions. Van-Tech even do stainless with black powder coating on. Should last for years. Mine are the black stainless ones, been on for a couple of years still look new apart from the odd scratch, but the scratches won't rust.
My van came with the cheaper ones and they've rusted to hell and back, go for the stainless as it's not easy getting under the van to remove and fit them, you need to remove a number of underbody trims which is fine if you have access to a ramp.
Anyone else bought stainless steel side bars that rust ?? I bought a set of supposed stainless steel bars 4years ago now there rotten to the point of nearly falling off! I'm after black stainless side bars that are actually stainless steel does anyone know where I can source some ?? :*
Cheers for your feedback, I’ve gone for the van tech ones, black and powder coated, I also spoke to my brother who’s a welder and knows his metal, so all good.
I have these, mine got stone chipped within weeks, no signs of any rust though, been on about 6 months now, they need painting/powder coating/ wrapping to get them perfect again, a bit disappointed at how easily they chipped tbh.
