Hey there...

So I run a small specialist bike shop in the Midlands (justmountainbikes.co.uk) as well as a few other online ventures and decided it's time to get me popper van and fell in love with the T5s!

I went from looking at well used 2007ish models to stretching my budget to this 2010 102hp panel van with aircon and electrics, FSH and 90k miles. Yes a fair few in 3 years but after owning a few older German cars I felt this was not an issue if well looked after and to do so many in 3 years is likely motorway miles. Also it has the benefit of the gearbox and driveshaft being replaced 6 months ago and the cambelt and waterpump before I collected it at no extra expense to me. All in all I feel like I have a new van for half the price (10k + VAT) as it seems faultless!

Updated Project Checklist:

insluate, carpet, floor £ 300.00 DONE

spoilers and splitter £ 200.00 DONE

Colour Coding £ 450.00 DONE

stereo (kenwood gps) £ 490.00 DONE
speakers and amp £415 (I'm a Drum and Bass nut/DJ DONE
https://soundcloud.com/lqdnb)
Already have a 12" sub and amp
rear camera £ 30.00 DONE

leisure battery £ 150.00 DONE
Mains hookup and inverter £ 150.00

RnR Bed.........Canons Forge (Memory) £ 750.00 DONE
front seat upholstery to match £ 300.00 DONE
seat swivel & cab mat £ 320.00 DONE

middle side windows £ 350.00

lowered 40mm on 20" rims £ 1,100.00 DONE

I have seen another thread on mountain bike vans and am currently set on positioning the R&R seat bed 60cm or so forward to have a bike compartment at the rear. Open to input on anyone with pointers on doing this and anything else!

Paying for help only on coding and window fitting to keep the costs down so the rest will be DIY with my pal at work.

Can't wait to get it all sorted J:

Nice base van you've got there bud. T:

What kind of riding do you do - xc, downhill or a bit of everything?
Yeah nice clean base I think, just getting the seats out now to grind away the bulkhead remains.

Love local cross country and trail centres mostly rather than downhill, do love a good challenging red/black trail. The downhill bits mostly! Looking forward to checking the newly opened Bike Park Wales now my new Orange Five Pro 650b is built up. And you?

Seems like I'm kind of contradicting myself there - I do like the downhill but don't have anywhere nearby to do it full on and don't ride a dedicated downhill rig at all...

I mostly (always infact) ride xc. I only have xc bikes which have done me proud arohnd most of thd welsh trail centres. I am fortunate to live next to a load of mod land so have nice dusty single track to ride. Also have swinley forest just around the corner too. A:

Hey amdowney, are you based in bidford. Im a super keen biker with a santa cruz v10 and lapierre zesty 714. I find it impossible to get a good bike shop locally to carry out services and repairs properly. Do you offer this kind of service as both my bikes need a bit of tlc. Would you be interested in stripping down my V10 as im looking to get it painted and then rebuilding it for me? Im based in Offenham.

Nice van by the way.

Hey yeah we are, and offer such a service - why not pop down for a chat with the mechanic and I on a Tues-Thurs (or another time if you let me know when you are thinking) when he's currently in for definite. Will be cool to see your van too...

So it's been a busy month with all sorts going on but got some essentials sorted on the van:

  • 55mm drop springs fitted (prosport) by mechanic making it handle so much better
  • 17" VW nearly new steels, with conti all weather tyres (to be black hammerited + spacers probably)
  • seats out and leisure battery fitted under driver seat
  • along with a JL amp for the front speakers
  • morel maximo componenets in the door with soundproofing
  • Kenwood DAB & GPS HU fitted with reverse camera at the back
  • double passenger seat swivel installed
  • sportline replica grille

[/LEFT]

I managed to back into a low wall and slightly dented the plastic bumper (before the camera install but before the body shop next week thankfully). Turns out it was filled before along with the lower back panel as is visible from the inside with the ply off. No serious damage and a tidy repair it seems, although that and the front wing do sometimes appear a different shade to me the more I look at it.

On Monday it's finally in for colour coding plus a front cobra sport splitter, fog lights & rear spoilier fitting. Gonna be the biggest change I think.

Then to crack on and soundproof, inslulate and carpet the rear with a remap on the cards also!

OK Richard. My van isn't a spot on your super low sportline yet - but in body shop as we speak for coding/spoiler/splitter then with the blacked out 17" winter steels it should be getting there...
