Sliding door handle removal problems

Happy Saturday all.

The door handle on my sliding door has finally given up and stopped opening from the outside. It's been a bit temperamental since I got it but with so many other things to get done on it, it's been put to the back of the queue. It will open from the inside and it locks and unlocks as it should.

The problem I think I've got is that somebody (not me, honestly) has had a go at taking the handle off before and the T25 screw that you unscrew to take out the smaller fixed section of the handle out (circled in red) does absolutely nothing. The barrel part won't move at all. Even with some good old fashioned 'encouragement'.

Also, does the bar (circled in blue) look to be in the correct position? It certainly wasn't when I started. That also seems to move a lot when using the exterior handle.

Any help or pointers would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

I'll talk you through it.....The Red torx screw releases the key lock on the outside, the screw doesn't come out, its retained in place and there is another torx screw on the outside revealed when the lock is pulled out, then you can unhook the handle. You can remove the central locking motor casing 3 or 4 screws on the inside and then pop the door open by following the the cable to the latch and pulling the lever which means you can now remove the internal section with that bar you have circled that comes out as an assembly. Check its all clipped together in the now obvious retaining grooves, then turn your attention to the motor housing and see if thats doing its job. Before you do any of this, with the door open clean the brass connections on the lug and its opposite slot that transfer power to the lock and see if that helps. On mine, the terminals had crudded up, yanking on the handle must have broken the motor housing where the cable outer comes out meaning the cable stopped operating, this was in cold weather..... Struggling to get a new one for less than ÂŁ240. appreciate it if someone can say if parts with different last 2 letters work the same

Thanks so much Nabbers.

I have managed to get the handle out now. The locking plate was just really crudded up. I had to wind the screw in and out a load of times and then really wrestle the fixed lock part out.

I just need to get a spline tool to get the lock assy out now.

Thanks again for your help.
