Has anyone truly resolved the sliding window leaks on new vehicles?

I'm on my third T5, all have suffered with sliding window leaks to some degree. Two have had sliding units replaced but not cured the problem completely.

These leaks are NOT between the main glass and the body they are from the sliding portion.

The latest is from a new vehicle that has had a sliding section replaced already a couple of weeks ago and the window not opened since it left the workshop. Looked in this morning and it's wet inside at the bottom of the sliding channel.

I am having total co-operation from my van centre but they are a a loss on how to resolve the problem although willing to persevere with it.

I cant see it solving the problem.
The issue is that VW have designed a rubbish window. The seal leaks unless it is absolutely spotlessly clean as well as needing the inside sealing edge of the glass to be spotless. These are difficult to clean as they are inaccessible and open to the elements, so you are fighting a losing battle trying to keep them clean. If they are contaminated with dust etc the water trickles in. Then the totally inadequate drainage slot and hole dont allow the water out.
Its a simple answer...they look good but are SH**.

Humming bird, were your fitted with the latest version? I am told they have been modified quite a lot.

Mine goes in on Thursday (23rd Oct) for one new window complete to be fitted, I'll let you know the outcome.

Mine is a 56 plate and both leak and can't do with the pain of them leaking.
I don't like the look of the after market ones but the genuine ones are damaging my interior.

What I want is someone to say is replace with genuine windows they will be trouble free but we all know this won't be true:confused:

Someone tell me I'm wrong please

Are the drain holes clear? There are two in each window, one visible when the window is open and another that never gets exposed in the centre of the slide. They should allow the water to run outside past the bonding. Try pouring water down the visible hole and see if it runs outside, faulty windows allow it to run inside either in its entirety or partially. The nozzle from a bathroom sealant tube can be made into a funnel to pour water into the holes.

I am aware of the problem in the design / manufacture of the ones that leak and intend to have a close look at the revised version before they are fitted to my van.

I'll post my findings on here as soon as I have had chance to experience the new ones in situ.

As I said above one of mine is being changed on Thursday. They are only changing one as I will have to remove some of the fittings for the change of the other so I'm not doing that until I see the results of the first one!

If you remove the lower trim cover, lever out and down carefully to get it off, you will see a flat cover over the bottom of the drain hole. That cover should channel the water out through a plastic moulding that passes between the glass and the outside of the bodywork bridging the window bonding and allowing the water to drain outside.

From what you say yours is just like mine were the two plastic pieces are not sealing together allowing the water to run inside instead of out. If the vehicle is still under warranty chase your Van Centre for replacements, there are revised versions of window available but the Van Centre may have to get part numbers from VW technical as the new ones may not yet be on ETKA.

Don't let them fob you off with just changing the moving slider it's the complete window that they have to change!

Almost in line with where the drain hole is inside runs out under the edge of the glass.

I guess with care and perseverance you can seal between the two plastic parts and fix the problem.

OK - I have had my window out and removed the tray below the track ...

I can't see any way the water that goes through that hole in the front of the track can escape outside ... there seems no channel through which it can flow.

Here is the drain hole

here is the underside of the track removed.

here is the side of the van the area below the window.

I can't see any means by which water will flow through the hole in the top picture to the outside ...

I can understand why you cannot see how it drains outside as the moulding that carries the water is hidden from view unless you have a complete window out of the vehicle. However I'll explain...

Image

1. Is I guess where you see water running inside the vehicle?

2. The flat piece that you can see is a cover below a channel in a plastic inverted 'L' shaped moulding that takes the water outwards and then down through the area where the window is bonded to the vehicle on the outside surface.

3. The lower leg of the 'L' is behind (or outside) the metal bodywork at this point.

The pressing that is visible here is nothing to do with the water drain, it is for fitting plastic mouldings around the windows on Caravelles and Multivans etc.

I hope that this helps.

Right; Ive had another look ...

In my top photo above there is a drain hold.

If I remove the trim below then the drain hold goes nowhere ... if the bottom trim is removed shown in my second photo the water just goes in the hole & out the bottom into the van.

Are you saying when the bottom trim is in place the water collects in that and flows out?

Montello1984 I don't like to be pedantic but please go back and read what I explained. If you were see a new window out of the vehicle it would all become clear!

The water goes out via a moulding that you cannot see. The flat piece that you see should be pressed up to touch the part above and seal that way the water will pass outside.
