Doing the TDI conversion on an AHU block, we used the original ABL alternator and bracket. Mainly because it provided the blue wire output for the rev counter and fitted the connectors on the existing loom. The thing is, when installing the belt, the spring is pushing the alternator to the end of its travel. This means the belt might not be tight enough. Any thoughts anyone?

Did you get the right belt? There are two most factors give you the golf belt the abl is 2 inches give or take shorter!
take old belt in and get a copy of that one! If still stuck then use golf alternator 90amp better than abl for sure with tensioner and jobs a good un! :)

could be a bit out on the amps but still more than the abl one unless you have changed it recently! Been a long day sorting seat loom on brake pedal switches! aftermarket !

I think I have the opposite issue

After a rebuild I have also fitted a freewheel pulley to the ABL Alternator but found
that it is slightly larger in diameter giving me an issue getting the belt on.

May run a smidge slower due to diameter but I can live with that.
