Hi all,
Got a problem with my steering.
Starts sqeeling and getting heavy on half lock then steering goes realy heavy at slow speeds on near full lock.
Is there any way of ajusting the belt?
Do i need to change the belt on steering pump? or drain steering fluid and replace with new?
Any help would be great as it's driving me mad. T:

Any advice on cleaning out the fluid as this is the first thing i'm going to try.

The van is a L reg 2.4 diesel 5 cylinder

You adjust the belt by moving the shims in the pulley, seems as you have to take the pulley apart you may as well put a new belt on for the sake of a couple of quid.

Fluid is simple, hose off, fluid comes out, hose on, fill up.

i have a slack belt on mine and occasionally the steering gets very 'notchy', usually when steering at low speeds. I havent tightened it as yet because the allen head bolts are rounded off. I think you need a 9mm allen key in the centre to hold the pulley whilst undoing them. Take the shims out of the middle to tighten it, add them to slacken it. put the shims back on the outside in case you need them again. A bit of an old skool way to adjust it. Would have been better to do it like they do with the alternator

Just been under van and its a loose belt, It's got the ajuster that ajusts with a special tool.
Tool looks like a grinder spanner but with a dogleg in it.
Anybody got one i can borrow.
