Hi All,
It doesnt matter how good yer van looks or is. If it squeaks yer feel like yer drinving a noddy car..
Got a squeal / squeak on my 52 reg 2.5 88bhp. It only squeeks for about 30 seconds after the first start up of the day when engine is stone cold & a tad lumpy, then after a bit of revs dies away. The sound is only heard again during the day the second I turn the key & the engine fires up then straight to normal tickover. It had all belts done plus pump prior to me getting the van a few weeks back. This has all been confirmed by VW Commercial Preston. They also confirmed that bottom pulley is in fine fettle. I can only presume it is a belt though? If it were a pulley / pump, would the sound not be ther all the time? Fuel pump timing is also spot on. Any Ideas?

Cheers,

Warren

Had exactly the same on my 88 after I had the belts, tensioners and bottom pulley done by a VW Audi specialist.

Turns out it is the v belt tensioner and they all do it to a lesser or greater extent when they are first started up.

Seems that the tensioner takes a second or two to apply the tension so you get a bit of slip. Even worse on mine when you have the AC on from start up!!
