Hi All,

Ive just had my Stanas replaced with the .205 Bosch injectors by a diesel specialist & the van aint running right.

The reason I had the Stanas replaced was the fact that they were the cause of my half burnt diesel smoke & smell. The van no longer smokes or smells & there seems to be more responsive & quite a lot quicker. Thats the good bit.

The fuel pump was altered on the top slider to compensate (hammer mod I have been reliably informed) & get it 'nearly' running well. The problem I have is the engine stutters as the revs come down to idle & gets progressively worse as the the engine gets up to temp.

When I test drove it, it was absolutely fine when the engine was stone cold & returned to idle as it should. I got the engine up to half temp & I noticed it was stuttering for about 1 second every third time just before it gets down to idle speed. Then I made the mistake of going back to the garage & saying I could probably live with it. Driving home the engine got up to the full 90 degrees & every return to idle was met with a stutter lasting about 3 seconds! This was so annoying in traffic – on & off the gas & returning to idle all the time. Cant be doing the engine mounts any good?

I was originally told by the guy that it would NOT require a remap as he had done loads of T4s & now he says some do develop this stutter but all the people who have it have lived with it. I have shown the van to a few people & none have said they could live with it.

Talked to a reputable tuning company & was told I DO need to have a remap but as the top of the pump has been pigged around with he wont touch it unless its returned to the factory settings for the Stanas which is tricky with .205 Bosch injectors in as it would probably run like a bag a poo.

Rung up the guy that did the fitting & Im gonna take the van to him this week to see if he thinks its as good as he can get it. To be fair if it cant be improved on, he has said he would put the van back to how it was with stanas & give me a refund for the injectors. Thing is , I like the lack of smoke & the new power the Bosch injectors have given the van but cannot put up with the stutter.

Would be great if someone could give the van a tiny remap just to iron out the blip in the current map without having to put the pump back to its original position :*

So there you have it. What do you reckon I should do & how are you supposed to get your new injectors in at one company whilst not altering the pump to enable to get you from the diesel specialist to the remap company when they are miles apart

Thanks for readin :ILU:

Hi,

If it were mine I would get it returned to standard spec by putting the Stanadynes back in and putting te pump back to "standard"!

THEN, swap the injectors back to the bosch ones. then book an appointment with Wayne at Chipwizards, (he's up your neck of the woods)

All the problems will be sorted in the re-map!

I have fitted Bosch injectors straight into an 88 BHP engine and it has never had the problems you describe, High idle speed/ extra smoke are normal after fitting Bosch's into an 88 BHP, all are sorted in the re-map.

People drive their vans for quite long periods with the new injectors in before they get them mapped. It's fine as long as you don't need an MOT between the fitting and the re-map!

Cheers Trev.

Sounds like the mod was done when cold and not warmed up, i've done the hammer mod on mine previously and never ran like that.

Pendle or chipwizards isn't to far from you have a word and get them to map it and putting the pump back is only a case of a small tap which either one of them could do for you T:

Just see if you can get some sort of discount of the garage if you live with it, which you won't have to of course

Aren't you supposed to have this rectified in VAG Com?

Look at Rake's PP thread and it tells how this is supposed to be adjusted.

Have to admit that I haven't done mine yet either and it lumps about all over the place some times.

some people are lucky that when the new injectors are fitted to have no problem with idle. some get it bad, mine was T:

Thanks for your input guys,

I have taken your advice & rang Wayne at chipwizards. Seems a really nice bloke & had loads of time to talk. Seems I dont need to get it all put back to standard after all (as I was previously told) & so will keep the Bosch injectors in T:

My van is booked in with him later on this week. he said despite the fuel pump having the hammer mod, he reckons he will be able to sort the lumpy return to idle in the mapping.

Dont really want mega power. All I want is the van to run sweet without leaving the plumes of white smoke the Stanadynes used to give me..

He's got the rolling road too ,so should know what the power of the van is instead of just having an educated guess.

Heres hoping,

Cheers

Warren grab a cheap decat pipe before going. Wayne will sort it out. Take plenty of biscuits. I have just been in and had map done today. Great results and donating to charity.

Iya Paul,

Bin meanin to drop you a line now your in sunny Yorks. Hope yer both doing fine there mate.

Was talking to wayne this morning about your air intake caper. Fair do's for admittin that one I:

I did my EGR last year & got a full stainless decat system fitted from Bluebird in spring this year, so I'm sorted & ready to rumble. Like I said, I aint too fussed about tons of power I would probably never use. I just want a smooth runnin smoke free bus.

Hope he sorts it for us. From talking to him, he seemed confident he can.

Glad your van is runnin well. You have a 102 to start with. What did Wayne get it up to?

Hi Warren, both good thanks. There's a thread on here about my intake and one in general T4 about killing my side bars. I'm good at ducking up.
Post on here with photo and vid from today. Putting out just shy of 140 bhp. Very useable.

Nice one Paul.

Just seen the photo & vid. You wouldn't want yer cam belt to give way during that process eh.. Spooky that both our buses are in chipwizards in the same week.

140 is a great result A: Even if I wanted the power, I dont think mine would get near that figure as Im devoid of an intercooler. As its a 88, id be happy with 110bhp.

Are you happy with it now Warren?

You looked worried there for a while.... :)
Well chuffed with it Wayne. Ive posted a new thread entitled Chipwizards Absolute Quality A:

2 weeks ago it was a standard van with smokey Stana's & now its Bosch powered & a lovely drive thanks to your mapping skills . Was speeding without knowing on the way home cos not used to the extra umph! Pulling out a juctions etc is much better to. Its really nippy.

At least it my engine seems in good nick.

Yeh Im good at doing worried mate (especially when mi van is at 4500rpm LOL: )

Top job Wayne

Cheers
