Hello Folks! Newbie here with my first post! Lots of questions as I just put a deposit down on a 888 special 2.5 TDi T4 window van (the one with windows all around the back)! I have a query about seats, fittings, insurance, etc...

The T4's currently a motorbility van, and as a result has 2 front seats, then 2 single seats, one behind the other, on one side of the back, with a wheelchair lift in the back. It was fitted like this by a coachbuilder from new. I'm going to take the lift out, then wanted more seats in the back. I wanted to have it with 2 in the front, then a row of 3 behind. And I was going to decide whether to leave the rear-most single in too so I might have a 5- or 6-seater.

The thing is, what do I do for insurance? At the moment is it classed as "modified"? It's a "standard" motorbility model built by a VW certified motorbility fitter. But equally it's not "normal". If I then fit 3 seats in the back then in some ways it's more "standard" than the current setup, but again I would have modified it from how I got it, so what do I do with insurance? I don't want to be driving round in a 5 seater T4 paying £100 more insurance each year than another person driving round in a nearly identical 5-seater T4!

Some insurers will process me through their computer and just slap me with a "modified" bill. I assume there's better insurers who specialise more in T4s, campers, surf van, type things, who will be more understanding than the big mass-market insurers. Who could you suggest? It's a is a pretty standard van aparts from this seat thing though. I may get myself some alloys and smoke the rear windows at a later day when I have some money, but that comes later...

Also, what are standard configurations of seats in T4 vans? The current single rear seats have a 3-point seatbeat built into both of them. Is it correct that the standard triple rear seat has a belt strap in the middle and a 3-point belt on each end, which needs additional seatbelt fittings to the T4? How difficult is it to fit the 3-point belts to the interior of the T4? Can you get triple seats all with belt straps or with 3-point belts built into them? How about fitting T5 seats in a T4?

Basically, hit me with all you seat-fitting know-how, pros and cons, and associated insurance info, and anything I should know to make my non-standard T4 like a relatively standard T4 with more seats... T:

BTW, this is a different T4 off the cornishvans website, but it looks just like this one... http://www.cornishvans.com/graphics/vw_red_001.jpg

I've had a good chat with the insurance co now, and they're fine about the extra/changed seats. A: So now the question is really about what seats I should fit, and possble configurations.
